My dad gave me a framed copy of this picture. He was so excited when he found it while researching his family. It is a five-generation photo with my Great Aunt Julie as a little girl, Mattie Smith, George B. Smith, James Smith, and Mary Horner Smith.
Sometimes we have a picture that has names associated with it. Sometimes we have a picture with a date written on the back. How can we gain more information?
What I learned from this photo:
1- Julia is the little girl in the photo. She was born in 1908. She is not a baby, but she is still young maybe 2 or 3.
2- Mary Horner Smith was the first in this picture to pass away. She died in 1912.
3- While researching newspapers, I found the clip listed in the Saint Louis Dispatch. It was dated 2 April 1911. It gave information about a reunion and how the family came together.
Often there are lots of clues hanging around in our research, and if we put our research and our pictures together we can figure out more about our ancestors.
